BY SANDY HAWORTH
A SCULPTOR who has studied in England, Eire, Paris
and Japan is now bringing his collection to Milton Keynes.
Richard Field's exhibition opens at Stantonbury Gallery on Monday.
After failing to find a job as an art teacher. Richard turned
his hand to sculpture 12 years ago. He returned to England from
Paris in 1986, and has taught full-time and continued art work
his spare time. "I visited Japan in 1986 to work with Japanese
artists and intend to live and work there permanently at the end
of 1988." He said.
"My works may appear more abstract than real to some
viewers, and more real than abstract to others.
"Every work in the exhibition is drawn or sculpted from
real objects or situations.
"My process is only one of selection from nature elements
to comprise powerfully.
"I will continue in the future sculpting less portrait
work and more forms based upon bones, skulls and mountains
influenced by oriental landscape painting.
"At the same time, I an studying European medieval art
with a view to creating sculptures representing scenes from
the lives of British saints."
The exhibition is open until July 16.
