The Kingfisher Ballerina

Shimmering across the eddying pond
A winsome smile honeyed with song
Innocence dressed in guiltless secret glances
Wisdom sewn in delicate airy dances.

A slant of honest delving wing
Into my eye azure flecks you fling
Sapphire flashes in our gaze you paint
Weaving oe'r the lake in dashing feints

In darting glinting silver shine
Beneath the water my aspirations climb
With rapier speed you swoop and stab
A helpless sliver of quivering grabbed

I reach to laughing sorrow in your eyes
Bend my will to seek your piercing flights
Endless waiting under covers verdant green
For a glimpse of your perfection oe'r the stream

As a forlorn lover waits in a straw hut
For his paramour to drift across the cut
In turquoise silk she charms the spinning air
Near in essence to his raptured stare

Then on a stem before his eyes does rest
Offering in gorgeous costume dressed
Viridian mercurial ultra marine
A tiny fish sparkling bright and clean

A sudden gust of funneling wind does bend
Alarmed, fish dropped dashing wings ascend
I alone, believing it was truth
The dazzling iridescence was you...
