Pale and flying sensuous nymph Flitting in the forest glimpsed By hunters pulling stinging bows Whose arrows seek a leaping doe Escape by stretching further still Your agile thighs and thwart their kill By thrusting forth your pointed toe Deflecting arrows as they flow Your glance is wild and innocent Learning grace with deep intent Weave into my breaking heart Your joyful ecstasy of art Know that your soft secret smile Plucks the strings of ancient lyres Love cares for you, it's sweetest balm Is seeping from your graceful palms Within my forest dense and deep Demons lulled to silent sleep By you, nimble, bashful fawn Quickly come the rays of dawn All the spirits of the night Banished by you, virtuous sprite Spread morning glare to ominous shades Let dewy bluebells fill the glade In the blissful daylight bower Pastoral toes and crystal showers Sowing with your gentle hands Seeds of truth on barren land Winsome fairy don't poets forsake Drowning in the murky lake Eels are coiling round our soul Despair does drag us in it's hole But your orange blossom glance Hopeful brave and cheerful dance Will lift us from the watery drain Unravel all our seering pain Our captive spirit by your side As on whisper winds you glide Into rapturous veils of air We journey in your maiden care Richard Field May 2003 |
