Dancer into Fathoms

From my deep and secret memory place Your smile pulls out the fairest trace Of my once true and dearest friend Whose pliant body did my dreamings bend The message of your face has grown Into my soul some secret thoughts you've sown I'm nearer to the space where your dance glows Intriguing to the knowledge of your flows Among the dancers bending at the barre Your nuance is a deeper star Your eyes are lowered as you pass me by I stare into your smile to find a why Dance churns the streams of your blood Into a molten larva of flowing love Both sun and moon light up in you Inner joys, mysterious and true An oriental sense in your inner cry Pleads for understanding sighs All bitterness escapes from you And sweetens into morning dew My words are poor to paint your soul The wave you dance entwines a coil Of string around my heavy heart Unravelled only my your ballet's art Richard Field April 2003 |
